A masonry worker died from his injuries after falling from scaffolding at the Atlas Apartments construction site in Issaquah Monday morning.

A masonry worker died from his injuries after falling from scaffolding at the Atlas Apartments construction site in Issaquah Monday morning.

“Today we had a tragic accident,” Eastside Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Richard Burke told media Monday on the site at Seventh Avenue Northwest and Northwest Gilman Boulevard.

Authorities pronounced 46-year-old Philip J. Rumsey dead at the scene after Eastside Fire and Rescue crews performed CPR, Burke said. He is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, parents and siblings.

Rumsey was the employee of the subcontractor, Fairweather Masonry, with Seattle-based Andersen Construction.

Fairweather started a GoFundMe account Monday to help with funeral expenses and to help his family. As of Wednesday morning, it had already earned more than $18,600.

Atlas construction was on hold for the rest of the day after the accident Monday.

“We’re taking it a little bit at a time,” Burke said.

Grief counselors were on site for other construction workers.

An investigation with the Issaquah Police Department and Washington State Labor and Industries is ongoing, which will determine why the man fell, if he was harnessed and how far he fell.

“It’s a tough day,” said Eric Olson, Andersen Construction’s operations manager.
