The following information was compiled from Sammamish police reports:
A man with a cart full of groceries and a small child tried to escape a Sammamish grocery store without paying the afternoon of March 2.
When the manager followed the man out the door and asked him if he had a receipt, the man said he did, hedged, then grabbed the child and ran to his car and drove away.
There was just shy of $400 worth of groceries in the cart. Police found a record for a man matching the vehicle’s description and store employees said they would be able to identify the suspect.
‘Land shark’
A Sammamish resident in the 22000 block of Southeast 27th Street called police Feb. 28 after a suspicious man wearing a bicycle helmet knocked on his door and said “I am a land shark.” Police later located the suspect, who was fertilizing a nearby yard. Asked why he went to the other home, the man told the officer he was a land shark.
He stated it was from Saturday Night Live and he thought it was funny.
Mischievous teens
A Sammamish woman called police Feb. 20 after a suspicious vehicle followed her to her housing development.
The woman, who was with her two children, said she pulled over to let the vehicle pass. The car passed, but then pulled over and began following her again. The vehicle was turning its high beams on, then completely turning its lights off. The woman said the car had followed her for at least 20 minutes.
Police eventually caught up to the car, finding four juveniles. Asked why they were following the woman, they said “they were bored.”
Because they were under 20 and not blood related the driver was charged with an intermediate driving license violation. Police returned all the occupants to their parents.
High in public
Police received multiple calls Feb. 25 stating that a tall white man was running up to people and asking them for rides on Issaquah-Pine Lake Road.
Officers were told he was jumping in front of vehicles, stopping them to ask for a ride. Police later found the Tukwila man running around a convenience store.
The man stated he was on pills and just had morphine and made references to methadone.
Check fraud
A Texas man called Sammamish police Feb. 27, reporting that his ex girlfriend had fraudulently withdrawn money from his bank account.
The couple had been separated for over two years. When police attempted to contact the suspect, she was not at home. They did reach her father, however, who said she was currently at a psychiatric hospital.
