It was impressive enough when the Issaquah High School girls track and field team took home their first state title at the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association state championship May 30. Even better, it was the first 4A championship for Issaquah High since the school switched to that athletic classification in 2008.
But now the Eagles have their own day.
Monday night, Issaquah Mayor Fred Butler proclaimed June 15, 2015 to be Issaquah High School Girls Track and Field Team Day.
Butler called the team up before city council as he made the proclamation.
“Don’t be bashful,” Butler said. “You weren’t bashful when you competed.”
The Eagles took first place in the state track meet at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma, racking up 59 points and coming in 11 points ahead of their closest competitor.
