To celebrate National Volunteer Recognition Month, Issaquah Mayor Ava Frisinger and the Issaquah Citizen Corps (ICC) honored dozens of volunteers during a reception April 27.

The event was a well-earned thanks to just some of the many residents who dedicate hundreds of hours to helping their community prepare — and respond to — emergencies and disasters.

ICC president Brenda Bramwell received the gold award for exceeding 500 hours of volunteer service.

In total, 19 volunteers responded during and after the record flood which hit Issaquah in Jan. 2009.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members helped with sandbagging, distributing informational flyers and moving flood-damaged debris into dumpsters.

In addition, many ICC volunteers were honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Eight volunteers received bronze (more than 100 hours of service or 50 hours for youth) and three received silver (more than 250 hours of service).
