Metro is testing a new bus ticket vending machine at the northbound bus stop on Third Avenue between Pine and Stewart streets in front of Macy’s in downtown Seattle. Riders will be able to use the machine to buy tickets while waiting for the bus.

This off-board payment option will help riders who don’t have ORCA cards board more quickly. The ticket vending machine works much like a parking pay station. Choose the type of fare and pay with cash or a credit/debit card.

The machine will dispense a paper ticket that can be shown to the bus driver when boarding the bus. The tickets are good for two hours and people can ride Metro as much as they like during that time.

The six-month pilot program will last through May 2015. If users like the machine, Metro will consider installing more.
