Beginning this Sunday, July 25, the left lane of eastbound Interstate 90 will close nightly from West Lake Sammamish Parkway to 92nd Avenue SE. The closures are part of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) project to retrofit cable barriers throughout the state, and is being funded by federal stimulus money.
WSDOT will be removing sections of current low-tension cable and replacing them with a high-tension cable barrier. The goal is to create greater safety by reducing the possibility of head-on collisions. According to the WSDOT website, cable barriers keep cars from crossing the median 95 percent of the time, and the new high-tension cable will ensure the system keeps operating even after some of the poles have been disabled.
The work on eastbound I-90 will continue throughout the week with lane closures beginning each night at 8 p.m. For more information, visit the WSDOT website.
