Everett police arrested a 24-year-old Lake Stevens man Sunday, Aug. 2, who police believe is responsible for two armed robberies in Issaquah, as well as possibly dozens of others around King and Snohomish Counties.
According to Steve Cozart, the deputy police chief for the Issaquah Police Department, the man in custody in Everett is believed to be the man who robbed Lover’s on July 24, and Emerald City Sun Tanning on the evening of July 28.
Because the crimes were spread across several cities and two counties, local agencies and prosecutors met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss where and how the man might be charged. Cozart said he expected Snohnomish County to fill charges Wednesday and that Issaquah would likely file two charges against the man with King County prosecutors for the robberies committed here.
“There is still a lot of negotiating and planning left to do,” said Cozart.
The suspect was located after police released a surveillance video of the man robbing two adult book stores in Everett, and according to press reports the suspect’s mother called police, saying it was her son in the video. Police in Everett followed the tip and arrested the man Sunday morning. He is suspected of robbing tanning salons, as well as other businesses, beginning sometime in early July.
The man was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on two counts of felony robbery while police continue their investigation and made an appearance in court on Monday. He is being held on a $750,000 bail.
According to a report by Issaquah Police about the July 28 robbery of the Emerald City Sun tanning salon, the suspect walked into the store in the evening, posing as a potential customer, before displayed a handgun, demanded cash and ordered the employee to the rear of the business. There were no customers in the businesses at the time of the robbery, according to Issaquah Police Commander Scott Berhbaum. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction. Issaquah Police searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.
The second robbery in Issaquah, at Lovers, an adult toy and lingerie store on E. Lake Sammamish Pkwy SE, took place on Friday, July 24, around 2:30 p.m. Witnesses told police the suspect, who had entered the store earlier in the day, came back, produced a black handgun and demanded cash before fleeing northbound.
It was originally thought the two crimes were not connected.
