A Sammamish Police Officer was involved in a high speed chase on Tuesday morning that resulted in the arrest of two women with outstanding warrants and uncovered evidence relating to a series of thefts in Bellevue, North Bend and Snoqualmie.

At about 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Sammamish Police Officer Kelly Kinser was on patrol when he observed a gray Chrysler New Yorker driving near the intersection of Issaquah-Beaver Lake Rd SE and Duthie Hill Rd.

A check on the vehicle’s license plate found that the vehicle’s license expired in 2008, though the vehicle was bearing 2010 license tabs.

Officer Kinser followed the vehicle to the City of Issaquah, where he attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle for the possible stolen license tabs.

The vehicle then entered Interstate 90 from Front Street exit 17, and proceeded eastbound, failing to yield to the officer’s lights and sirens.

Officer Kinser then engaged in a traffic pursuit.

The vehicle exited eastbound I-90 at High Point exit 20, where the driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle and ran into an embankment.

Two white females, the passenger and the driver, then fled on foot.

According to Sammamish Police Detective William Albright, the pursuit reached speeds of more than 80 mph.

The officer was able to place the driver into custody, but the passenger eluded capture temporarily.

Three officers the King County Sheriff’s Office, a Sergeant and a dog with the county K9 unit, and an additional Sammamish Police Department unit arrived at the scene to assist.

The dog was able to track the passenger of the vehicle, who resisted arrest, and was subsequently bit.

The passenger was placed into custody before being transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

According to Det. Albright, she required a few stitches to her leg.

The driver of the vehicle, 47 year old woman from North Bend, was booked into King County Jail for attempting to elude a police vehicle and outstanding warrants. It is understood she has a significant criminal history.

The passenger, a 26 year old woman from Carnation, was booked into Issaquah Jail for obstructing a law enforcement officer and outstanding warrants. The passenger also has a criminal record.

The vehicle involved was towed to the Sammamish Police Department, and a search warrant for the vehicle obtained.

Investigators from the Sammamish Police Department found evidence linking the involved suspects to vehicle prowls in Bellevue, and auto thefts in North Bend and Sammamish.

A large amount of stolen mail, from Sammamish, Redmond, Issaquah, and Snoqualmie, was found in the car.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
