Issaquah Police are still investigating an incident in which a man allegedly threatened another man with a handgun in downtown Issaquah last Thursday, May 14, sparking a manhunt around West Sunset Way.
Police thought the case had been closed, when Seattle Police arrested an Issaquah man, whom they believed was responsible for the incident, in Seattle later that day for an outstanding assault warrant.
But it has emerged that that man was in Seattle at the time of the incident in Issaquah on Thursday afternoon.
According to a spokesperson for the City of Issaquah, police received a call at 11 a.m. Thursday from a man who said that another man threatened him with a gun during an argument between the two at a medical building at 450 NW Gilman Blvd, Issaquah.
The two men were known to each other.
No shots were fired during the altercation.
Issaquah Police Patrol Commander Scott Behrbaum told The Reporter that they received verification this week that the man in custody in Seattle was not the same man that sparked last week’s manhunt.
Behrbaum confirmed that Issaquah Police were still investigating the incident, and were at present trying to verify some details of the statement given by the man who called the incident in.
He added that he did not believe the situation represented any danger to the public.
Issaquah Valley Elementary School and the school district administration buildings were put on temporary lock-down, as about 12 police, many of them dressed in camouflage and bullet proof vests, and armed with semi-automatic assault rifles, gathered near the Issaquah library at the intersection of Front Street and Sunset Way. The officers had been at a tactical training exercise nearby when the call came for assistance.
By the time police arrived, the suspect had left the scene.
The search was called off later that day when Seattle Police arrested the man who was at that time the prime suspect.
The lock-down at Issaquah Valley Elementary was lifted at about 1 p.m.
A rumor that the suspect threatened school children on a tour of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery was false.
