Parents can find out how to be their children’s emotion coach at a free workshop, developed by the Talaris and Gottman institutes on March 14 at Blakely Hall, 2550 N.E. Park Drive, in the Issaquah Highlands.
The workshop is taught by Kerry Beymer, Parenting Education/Family Support manager at Encompas, who also is a certified Parenting Counts (Talaris) instructor.
In this two-hour workshop, parents will learn how to tune into their children’s feelings and their own, use emotional moments as opportunities to connect with their children, respect their children’s feelings by taking time to listen carefully, and help their children identify and name emotions and, best of all, explore solutions to problems together.
“This evidence-based program will improve your communication and relationship with your child,” Beymer says.
The workshop is free and no childcare is offered. For more info or to sign up, call 425-888-2777 or visit http://www.encompassnw.org.
