Property and business owners impacted by recent flooding, wind and landslides this week can submit reports to King County for possible reimbursement and assistance.
“Those that suffered property damage or other losses in the storm may be eligible for assistance to get their property back in order,” according to a county press release. “Eligibility is determined through a damage assessment process which takes into account the total reported losses within King County.”
Individuals and businesses can submit reports to King County Emergency Management via a webpage, www.kingcounty.gov/damage. The webpage is now available.
Once reports are submitted, county officials can calculate the loss and determine reimbursement eligibility.
Additionally, people can report damage by calling a hotline number, 1-800-523-5044, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Dec. 14.
Submitting a report does not guarantee reimbursement. Damage reports are for uninsured losses.
Before filing, county officials suggest residents and business owners contact their insurance provider about existing coverage and deductibles; to document damage with photographs; and keep records of all cleanup and repair costs.
Unincorporated King County residents who saw damage from the storm can obtain a free building inspection from the King County Department of Permitting and Environmental Review.
The department of permitting waived the associated fee in order to help residents speed up repair to their property. While storm damage inspections are free, standard permit fees still apply.
Call 206-296-6630 to request a damage assessment inspection. The department of permitting’s customer service center operates 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. on most weekdays. It is closed on Wednesdays.
The department of permitting offices are located at 35030 SE Douglas St., Suite 210, in Snoqualmie.
