A 24-year-old man accused of killing his father, a Sammamish resident, in Eastern Washington is expected to appear in court Monday.

Pullman Police booked Erik C. Luden into Whitman County Jail on a first-degree murder charge Saturday for the death of his 58-year-old father, Virgil C. Luden, who has lived in Sammamish for many years.

Police had responded to a domestic dispute at 960 NE C St. in the College Hill neighborhood shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday, where they found the elder Luden with a fatal head wound. The son, who had been living in the apartment near Washington State University but is not currently registered at the college, sustained a few minor injuries and was taken to the hospital before being booked into the county jail.

Commander Chris Tennant of the Pullman Police Department said the son’s motive is still unclear.

“I don’t anticipate that to be a quick answer,” Tennant said.

Tennant expects to know more about the father’s death after the Whitman County coroner’s office performs an autopsy Monday.

The Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team assisted in processing the apartment.
