Get ready for the smell of fresh flowers, fried donuts and kettle corn to waft across the Plateau on a regular basis.
Mayor Tom Odell will launch the fifth annual Sammamish Farmers Market at 3 p.m., May 16 with a ceremonial ringing of the bell outside City Hall.
“We had a wonderfully successful season last year,” said market manager Juliana Pash, noting there was double-digit growth in terms of customers in 2011.
The market will run from 3-7 p.m., every Wednesday through Oct. 3 with the only exception will be Wednesday, July 4.
Hours are adjusted slightly from previous years, when it ran from 4-8 p.m.
There was an average of 35 vendors last year and numbers are expected to be the same this year. There are 39 approved vendors — 34 of which are returning from last year’s market.
Pash said there will be at least 13 farmers on hand, including a new Asian produce farmer. People also will be able to purchase items from a variety of artists, an Irish bakery, a donut maker and many other types of merchants.
“Wednesdays at City Hall are always nice in the summer,” City Manager Ben Yazici said. “It’s great to see the community come out, support the vendors, and enjoy themselves at City Hall Plaza.”
