Luke Boyer, a fifth grader at Cascade Ridge Elementary in Sammamish, was inducted into the 2012 AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame May 4 in recognition of his dedication to safety, community stewardship and leadership.
Boyer was one of 10 outstanding patrollers from across Washington to be recognized at the evening awards ceremony before the Seattle Mariners-Minnesota Twins game at Safeco Field.
Patrollers are judged on their commitment to traffic safety, citizenship, leadership skills, and contributions to their school safety patrol. Nominations require input from both the patroller and their advisor, including responses to a series of essay questions. As one of the patrol captains this year, Boyer is known for being a great role model and safety advocate.
According to Boyer’s patrol advisor, Paula Parks, he is a positive, compassionate and well respected leader that puts others before himself. After returning from a five-day school closure due to snow, Boyer arrived extra early to help prepare materials before fellow patrollers arrived, knowing it would be a more complicated morning due to lingering snow. He goes above and beyond to ensure the safety of others and believes being a part of safety patrol is his way of helping make the community a better place.
As a long-standing tradition, AAA Washington and a panel of judges from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Washington Traffic Safety Commission select top patrollers from schools across Washington each year and honor their accomplishments through induction in the AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame.
