Sammamish grandmother who drove SUV through home will remain in jail until sentencing, judge ruled

Carol Fedigan, 69, landed back in jail after violating her release terms by consuming alcohol, according to court documents. Via a transdermal alcohol sensing device, 2 Watch Monitoring reported Fedigan consumed alcohol Oct. 5-7, with a peak blood alcohol content of .16 on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.

A King County judge ruled Thursday that the Sammamish woman who drove through her lakefront home killing two in 2014 will remain in jail until sentencing, Oct. 30.

Last week Carol Fedigan, 69, landed back in King County Jail after violating her July release terms by consuming alcohol, according to court documents.

Fedigan had been awaiting sentencing for two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of vehicular assault, driving under the influence and reckless endangerment, which she plead guilty to July 30.

Via a transdermal alcohol sensing device, 2 Watch Monitoring reported Fedigan consumed alcohol Oct. 5-7, with a peak blood alcohol content of .16 on Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.

Judge John Chun denied Thursday afternoon “the defense’s motion for release pending sentencing,” Dan Donahoe of the King County Prosecuting Attorney Office wrote in an email.

In May 2014, Fedigan mixed wine and the sleep aid Ambien before moving her SUV back into the driveway of her Lake Sammamish home, according to court documents.

With her 3-year-old grandson in her lap, Fedigan mistook the accelerator for the brake and drove straight through her home, killing her husband and son-in-law and seriously injuring her daughter, court documents read.

Fedigan’s sentencing is set for Oct. 30 in the King County Courthouse. She faces a minimum of four years and 10 months in prison, according to the county prosecuting attorney office.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Amy Freedheim is recommending a maximum sentence of six years and one month, according to the attorney’s office.
