A 22-year-old Sammamish man was killed early Sunday morning after losing control of his motorcycle on State Route 202.

According to a press release issued by the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the man was performing stunts, and described his riding as “reckless.”

According to the release, a WSP trooper was conducting a traffic stop on SR 202 near Ames Lake Road when he observed a motorcycle pass his patrol car at a very high rate of speed while performing a “wheelie.”

The trooper was contacted a few minutes later by a passing motorist informing him of a motorcycle down in the road way. Upon arrival the trooper was unable to locate the rider. With help from a thermal imaging device the rider was located off of the roadway.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Last Thursday, WSP aircrews followed three motorcycle riders performing stunts and wheelies on southbound I-405 near Renton.

The aircrew spotted the motorcycles passing traffic, and monitored the riders as they continued east on NE 4th Street.

According to WSP, one of the riders appeared to look up at the aircraft several times before beginning to drive in a very aggressive and dangerous manner. The rider reached speeds near 100 mph while weaving through and past other motorists.

WSP’s aircrew directed Renton Police units towards the dangerous motorcycle rider. Renton Police took the 20-year-old male into custody and booked him into the King County Jail.

As we enter the warm weather months, the WSP would like to remind the public to be safe, slow down, and pay attention to your surroundings while driving.
