Sammamish Plateau high schoolers set their rivalries aside for a day to build community and to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Several hundred youths were expected to join the Pink Plateau event at Eastlake High School, which also helped raise money for Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Teens from three high schools, also including Eastside Catholic and Skyline high schools, wore pink for the day, and then descended on Eastlake for a party.
Large inflatables, laser tag, henna and plenty of food greeted the teens, who intermingled between classes and schools.
Many of the kids are neighbors, but they go to different high school. This event helps to bridge the gap, said Danielle Dales, the Eastlake ASB president. “This is honestly just a chance to drop rivalries for a day and get together.”
All week the high schools wore different colors to represent support for different diseases and for Japan, creating a type of plateau-wide spirit week.
This is the second year ASBs from the three schools organized the event. Pink T-shirts had logos of all three schools on them.
