Sammamish Plateau Water to hold public hearing on 2017 budget and rate adjustments

Sammamish Plateau Water’s Board of Commissioners is set to discuss the water district’s 2017 budget and rate adjustments at a public hearing at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12 at the district office, located at 1510 228th Ave. SE in Sammamish.

Following the hearing, the board may consider adoption of the 2017 budget and proposed water and sewer rate adjustments.

Residents are welcome to bring comments and suggestions. The board will discuss how rates pay for water and sewer maintenance and operation costs while also providing funds for the repair and replacement of pipes and facilities. The board will also explore ways to control costs related to providing water and sewer services.

Regarding water rates, the district is proposing a total adjustment to water revenue of 4.8 percent, which would be distributed within the rate structure as a 5.5 percent change in the water base charge, and a 4 percent change in the variable rate based on water consumption. A single-family residential customer using between 350 cubic feet to 750 cubic feet per month would see a monthly increase ranging from $1.75 to $2.04 on their water bill.

For sewer rates, the district is proposing an adjustment to sewer revenue of 2.5 percent, which would increase the monthly sewer rate for a single-family sewer residential customer by 83 cents to $33.98 each month.

Supporting materials for the public meeting can be found on the finance page of the district’s website at http://spwater.org/184/Financial-Information.

The district has an annual budget of $32.8 million, a staff of 55 employees and is a regional provider of water and sewer service to nearly 64,000 residents of portions of the cities of Sammamish and Issaquah and unincorporated King County.
