Residents can expect a mix of old and new May 15 when Sammamish hosts its first farmers market of 2013.
Favorites like Georgia’s Bakery will be back, but patrons can also expect a list of new options like Dante’s Inferno Dogs, Shaved Ice, Chef Lynn’s Food Truck and Little Prague Bakery.
“There will be a few major differences and similarities from years past,” said Dana Van Reeth, market manager.
The market, which is entering its sixth year, has 40 vendors registered. Fourteen will sell produce, eight are bakeries or other processed foods, eight are prepared food and the rest will sell crafts and other homemade goods.
Van Reeth said there are also some well-known musical acts set to perform this year, including Grammy nominated jazz artist Jovino Santos Neto (July 10) and harpist Bronn Journey (Aug. 14).
“We’re really looking forward to encouraging people to come and get some food — either put together their own there or eat from the food trucks — and listen to the music,” Van Reeth said.
There will be a focus on drawing youth to the market this year. Van Reeth said Eastlake High will end several of its track and cross country practices at the market. There also will be puppet shows, kids music and other craft opportunities for younger kids.
The Sammamish Library is pairing with the market in its “Place at the Table” program. Van Reeth said a variety of seminars will be offered, including a class featuring the fish throwers from Pike Place Market, who will talk about sustainable fishing and recipes.
The Sammamish Farmers Market runs from 3-8 p.m. Wednesdays, through Sept. 25 at the Sammamish Commons next to City Hall.
