The city of Sammamish Teen Fest started summer with a bang in June as skaters from all over the Greater Seattle area came together to put on some of the greatest runs the Sammamish Park has seen.

Skaters varied in age and talent, with a 6-year-old competing as well as some sponsored skaters. Organizers said they see many skaters who return year after year and the show only gets better.

And prizes from industry sponsors made skater’s efforts well rewarded. On-sight support came from Boardshop 5420, BC Surf and Sport, BFC and Advocare. Raffles were a hit for spectators and skaters alike, proving that even onlookers are winners at Teen Fest.

“I wouldn’t miss this event” said Austin Fischer, a multi-year returning skater, who brought his wife and newborn baby girl to cheer him on.

After a switch blunt side on the slant bank, he went on to win best trick and a $50 gift card from Zumiez. He also won second place in the sponsored division.

“It’s truly a day when the skate community can come together and celebrate the wonderfully creative family we are,” said Lynne Handlos, recreation coordinator. “Music in the park finished off a wonderful day for young and old alike.”
