A number of organizations are offering scholarships to Issaquah students.
The International Association of Firefighters Local 2878 – Professional Firefighters Scholarship: Applications due April 30. This is a $500 scholarship based on official high school transcript, two letters of recommendation and an essay no longer than 300 words. More information at Eastside Fire and Rescue, P.O. Issaquah Kiwanis High School Leadership Scholarship: Applications due April 30. This is a $1,500 scholarship to one graduating senior from each of the ISD high schools. Applicant will have participated in school and community activities that demonstrate outstanding community service, leadership and academic success. Linda & Jeff Ruehle Scholarship: Applications due April 30. An endowment from Linda and Jeff Ruehle, the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah will present a $2,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from Issaquah High School. Applicant will have participated in school and community activities that demonstrate a commitment to community service and leadership. Bill Longwell Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by Issaquah Alps Trails Club: Applications due May 1. A $2,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior from Issaquah, Liberty High, Skyline, Tiger Mountain or Hazen high schools, or to a son or daughter of a member of the Issaquah Alps Trails Club. First prize is $1,000, and there will be two other awards of $500. Based on 600-800 response to one of the essay prompts listed in the application along with the application. Joemik Fedyk Memorial Scholarship for IHS seniors only: Applications due May 1. A $500 scholarship to support students who have demonstrated integrity, fortitude, determination, compassion, and academic achievement while at Issaquah High School. Any student currently enrolled and in good standing at IHS who is committed to furthering their education and who will attend an accredited post secondary institution (vocational/technical school, community college, trade school, etc.) during the school year immediately following high school graduation will be considered. Criteria include character, integrity, determination, achievement, a demonstrated commitment through academics, financial need, involvement in school/community activities and/or work experience. Brock O’Connor College Scholarship: Applications due May 1. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a high school baseball player who best exhibits the characteristics demonstrated by Brock throughout his life of character, leadership, inspiration, teamwork, and an undying love for the game of baseball. Award is based on providing a brief history of your baseball career as well as your plans for college, along with awards, recognition or accomplishments. Greater Issaquah Chamber of Commerce Scholarship: Applications due June 1. Scholarships of $2,000 to give financial support to graduating seniors who are pursuing a degree or certification program at a community or technical college.
