Thefts at Sammamish swimming hole

Sammamish Police reported that there had been a number of thefts of personal belongings from people visiting Pine Lake Park.

Sammamish Police reported that there had been a number of thefts of personal belongings from people visiting Pine Lake Park.

On Monday, July 27, one victim had items taken from her unlocked car, while the others had left their belongings near the beach while they went swimming.

Sammamish Police Department Chief Nathan Elledge reminds residents and visitors to the area to be vigilant against theft in the city, and offered these crime prevention tips:

• Thieves look for opportunity, so make sure that your car is locked and the windows rolled up if you leave it unattended.

• Don’t leave valuables inside your vehicle. If you do, make sure that they are locked in the trunk or placed somewhere where they are not visible.

• Keep your personal belongings in sight while you are on the beach or playground.

• Call 911 if you see someone acting suspiciously. Be prepared to provide a thorough description of the person and their vehicle if possible, and be ready to explain what it is that they are doing that makes them suspicious.

Elledge said that Sammamish Police will be conducting checks of the local parks when possible.

Lifeguards have been asked to keep an eye out for suspicious activity, although their primary concern is the safety of swimmers.
