Time is almost up to register online for the 7th annual “Cycle the WAVE” all-women cycling event.
Three out of four routes for the bike rally will pass through Sammamish on Sunday, Sept. 14. All routes begin and end at Bellevue College, 3000 Landerholm Circle, Bellevue. More than 1,400 cyclists are expected to participate.
Both the 29.5-mile “Girly Girl” and 37-mile “Middle Sister” routes will circle Lake Sammamish down Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast, while the 61-mile “Burly Girl” route will take riders around the top of the Sammamish Plateau, east past Beaver Lake.
“Cycle the WAVE” benefits the “Women Against Violence Everywhere” foundation (WAVE). Established in 2011, WAVE’s mission is to end domestic violence through raising awareness and fundraising to benefit victims of abuse, according to a statement on the foundation’s web site. The rally is a non-competitive event geared towards women of all ages and fitness levels to promote camaraderie, increase exposure and raise funds for WAVE programs and assistance.
As of Wednesday, Sept. 10, the foundation has raised $113,235 of their $200,000 goal.
Registration is $75 for cyclists who register online by Friday, Sept. 12. On-site registration is available for $85 the day of the race. Registration and start times, along with more information on registration and course maps, are available online at thewavefoundation.org/cycle-the-wave.
