Unknown substance in Issaquah turns out to be bird droppings | Police blotter

A woman called Issaquah police May 26 when she discovered an unknown substance on her car on the 800 block of Third Avenue Northwest.

The following information was compiled from City of Issaquah and City of Sammamish police reports:

A woman called Issaquah police May 26 when she discovered an unknown substance on her car on the 800 block of Third Avenue Northwest.

The officer told her it was a large amount of bird droppings.

The officer helped the woman wash her car before she went on her way.

MISSING APPLIANCES

A Sammamish man called police June 22 to report that someone stole nearly $7,000 in appliances from his home in the 21800 block of Southeast 1st Street.

There was a dishwasher, washer, dryer, riding lawn mower and fridge missing. Someone also removed a standard pool table valued at $3,000.

The man suspected a former tenant of his rental home. The house was unoccupied for the last two months and he believes someone broke into the house through the garage door, which he leaves unlocked.

PINUP ‘GRAFFITI’

A Sammamish man called police June 21 to report graffiti on his driveway in the 2300 block of Southeast 21st Court.

When officers arrived, they found the “graffiti” was actually sexually related garbage that was left behind.

There were bachelorette party posters and pinups that were dumped in the driveway along with a water bottle and two beer cans.

STOLEN GUNS

A man called police June 17 to report someone stole $3,000 in guns from his shed in the 200 block of 220th Avenue Southeast.

The weapons included an AR-15 rifle and an AK-47.

MAILBOX BOMBINGS

Police responded to the report of a mailbox blown apart June 17 off of Beaver Lake Road.

Officers found evidence that someone lit fireworks inside the mailbox.

Police just responded two days earlier to a call of other mailboxes being blown up in the 2800 block of 234th Avenue Southeast.

GOATS IN ROAD

Goats reportedly got onto the road in the 7200 block of Renton-Issaquah Road Southeast on June 8. Police talked to their caretaker, who counted the goats and said they were all accounted for.

SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

A Sammamish man called police June 22 to report he was being harassed by a former coworker.

The man recently had a personal email password changed without his knowledge, a package opened on his front porch and a letter opened in his mailbox.

He believes the former coworker was committing these acts and wanted police to know “in case something happens.”

MYSTERIOUS WRISTBAND

A Sammamish woman called police June 21 to report someone broke into her house while she was out.The woman, who went out for an appointment, left her rear sliding glass door open.

When she returned to her home in the 2400 block of Sahalee Way she was missing a laptop and a pair of binoculars. Thieves left jewelry and other valuable crystal and silver items.

The woman said she found a white sweat/wrist band on her kitchen floor that didn’t belong to her. Police dusted for prints, but results came back negative.

SOLICITING VIOLATION

Police responded to a call of solicitors going door to door in Sammamish, selling books on June 17.When contacted the 22-year-old woman said she and her two partners were missionaries with the Seventh Day Adventist Church and that they were traveling around the country trying to obtain scholarship money.

They claimed to not know about Sammamish’s city code requiring a permit to solicit within city limits.

Upon investigation, officers found that the woman had other reports made against her in neighboring cities and has been in the area the last year soliciting “scholarship money.”

CAR KEYED

Police were called after a woman reported someone had ran their keys along the passenger side of her vehicle parked in the 20900 block of Northeast 44th Street.The damage was estimated at $200.

BICYCLE FOUND

Sammamish police found a bicycle stashed 30 feet from the road in the brush on June 15.

A resident in the 1200 block of 216th Avenue Northeast noticed the bike had been there for nearly a week before calling police.

It appeared brand new as it still had the rubber stubs along the sides of the tires and an SKU sticker on the neck. There was also a bike lock wrapped around the seat, leading police to believe someone stole and dumped the bike.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VANDALIZED

The walkway connected to the portables at Sammantha Smith Elementary was damaged June 11 after someone ripped the anti-slip material off the ground overnight.Damages were estimated at $200.

BROKEN WINDOW

A Sammamish resident called police June 23 to report someone broke the window on the rear passenger door of his vehicle in the 1100 block of 240 Way Southeast.

It appeared no one made entry as the doors were still locked and everything, including a GPS, remained untouched.

BURGLARY

A Sammamish resident reported his home broken into June 22 in the 4600 block of 233rd Avenue Southeast.

The thieves made off with more than $7,000 in items, including many valuable pieces of jewelry.

GRAFFITI IN THE HIGHLANDS

The Issaquah Highland’s Homeowners Association reported that several businesses in the area were tagged with miscellaneous writing, much of which referred to dancing.

Most of the tagging had been removed from the businesses, but some remained on a bridge. There were names and random words written in blue, orange and black.The officer documented the tagging June 8.

PARKING HEADACHE

A short disagreement in the Costco parking lot turned into a minor assault when the two parties ran into each other at the business’ restrooms May 27.

When they again came across each other, the person who began the confrontation in the parking lot called the other a “crazy white person.” The man responded “Why don’t you say that to my face?”They got up in each others faces and the man who made the racist comment pushed the other and grabbed for his throat.

A Costco employee witnessed the incident and told the man and his friend to leave.

COUCH IN THE ROAD

A dark grey couch was thrown in the roadway at Northeast Federal Drive and Highlands Drive Northeast. By time police arrived, someone had moved it off the roadway. Public Works removed it June 12.

LASER TAG

Someone called about a suspicious situation in the 3100 block of Northeast Norton Lane. Police discovered it was a group of teenagers playing laser tag and advised them to play in a more secluded place.

CONFUSED DRUNK

A man called police when a drunk tried breaking into his apartment at about 4 a.m., June 24 in the 23400 block of Southeast Black Nugget Road.

Police discovered the man thought he was trying to enter his own apartment and had mixed up doors. Police escorted him to his own home.
