Feeling undead this Halloween weekend? Thinking of adding a little pallor and a lot of fake blood to your makeup routine?
Then head to Olde Town Issaquah for the Downtown Issaquah Association’s seventh annual Zombie Walk on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Front Street will be closed to traffic for the afternoon as a hoard of the walking dead stumble from the Historic Shell Station to City Hall, where they will form a flash mob and dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s “Time Warp.”
If you require assistance putting your fatal face on, volunteer makeup artists will provide 10-minute makeup sessions at the Historic Shell Station between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. For help learning all of the “Thriller” and “Time Warp” moves, join dance instructor Alyson Young in a rehearsal from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
At 4:30, the zombies will take over Front Street and begin their macabre march to City Hall, stopping to tap on shop windows and cars along the way. Then at 5 p.m., the zombies will get their groove on and take “just a jump to the left and a step to the right” on the steps of City Hall as they perform their choreographed “Thriller” and “Time Warp” dances.
After the flash mob dance, those who don’t want the party to die can head to the Issaquah Brewhouse for food, drink and even more dancing with live music, provided by Fred and the Ghouls between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. The Brewhouse will offer $1 off of Rogue Dead Guy Ale.
Younger ghouls can attend a family-friendly party at the Issaquah Depot Museum, sponsored by The Grange, where the 1993 Halloween hit “Hocus Pocus” will be shown.
Make sure you come up with a creative DIY costume in addition to your makeup; prizes will be awarded for best adult, children and family costume, scariest costume and zombie’s choice. The walking corpse with the best dance moves will also receive an award.
The Historic Shell Station is located at 232 Front St. N., Issaquah.
