Woman attempts to extort Issaquah teen after video chat | Police blotter

A 16-year-old Issaquah boy contacted Sammamish police April 5 after a woman he met on the Internet tried to extort him for $100.

A 16-year-old Issaquah boy contacted Sammamish police April 5 after a woman he met on the Internet tried to extort him for $100.

The boy, who was staying at his friend’s house, said he met the woman on a free website, then friended her on Facebook. The boy said he proceeded to participate in a private video chat with the woman where he was in a compromising position.

The woman, who recorded the video, said she would post it to Facebook for the boy’s friends and family to see if the boy did not send her the money.

The boy said he was going to pay the money, but wanted to report the incident in hopes the woman would be tracked down.

STOLEN BIKE

Thieves stole a $100 bike April 4 at Samantha Smith Elementary when the student didn’t secure the bike to the bike rack.

BREAK IN

Thieves took $1,400 in items from a home in the 1200 block of 212th Ave. NE in Sammamish on April 2, including a sterling coffee pot valued at $700.

LEAVE NOW

A 45-year-old Bellevue woman was arrested April 4 after she refused to leave the Sammamish Library.

The woman was attending a meeting that she was not invited to. Organizers said she could stay and sit in the back of the room if she didn’t participate.

When she wouldn’t, organizers called police. The woman refused numerous requests from officers to leave and was arrested for trespassing.

CHILD ESCAPES

A Sammamish woman called police April 4 after witnessing an 18-month old child walking around with no adult in sight.

While en route, officers received a call from a 30-year-old woman that her child was missing in the 4300 block of 232nd Court Southeast.

Officers cleared the child of being in any physical danger in the home and determined she must have opened the door and walked out while her mother was on the other side of her apartment.

ATTEMPTED SCAM

A suspicious caller contacted a 25-year-old Sammamish man April 5 claiming to be with the treasury bureau and offering a $10,000 grant. The local man recognized a scam and told the caller he didn’t believe him. The man responded by saying, “Can I just be your friend?” The Sammamish man hung up.

PURSE THIEF

A Sammamish woman’s purse was stolen March 30 from a grocery cart in the 2900 block of 228th Avenue Southeast. The purse was recovered 10-15 minutes later, but $100 cash was gone.
