Jennifer Erin Garrett passed away suddenly and peacefully at the age of 40 on April 17, 2021 in Issaquah, Washington. “Jenny” was born October 26, 1980 in Woodland, California. Her parents relocated the family to Mercer Island in 1988 and remained residents until 2019.
Jenny had Down Syndrome, autism, and other special needs. She was quite the character and with doting mother Sabina always by her side, the pair were well known on the Island. Over the years Jenny frequented the south end QFC, Mercer Island Country Club, Luther Burbank Park and went on innumerable dog walks in Pioneer Park. She also made weekly visits to the Mercer Island Library.
Jenny attended school in the Bellevue School District, graduating from Interlake High School in 1999.
She was passionate about music, movies, dancing, ice cream and making mischief ! She loved animals and enjoyed the company of her Labrador Retrievers and cats. Jenny participated in many events and activities through the Highland Community Center in Bellevue, particularly enjoying dances and bowling at Sun Villa Lanes (she was an excellent bumper bowler!). She also enjoyed volunteering at the Issaquah Food Bank.
The last five years of her life Jenny felt a sense of independence, moving out of her parents’ house and living in “Mountain House,” her group home in Issaquah. She developed close bonds with her caregivers and co-residents. They remember her as being one tough cookie, and a practical joker with a sweet side.
Jenny will be greatly missed by her parents, Geoff and Sabina, brother Ben, sister Gabi (Casey) Gibson, nephew Max Gibson and other family members and friends near and far.
Her family would like to thank everyone for their kind words and flowers. A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming months. If you are interested in attending, please contact bengarrett22@gmail.com.
