I write today in order to recognize and applaud the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah for their steadfast support of Kindering’s work serving infants and toddlers with special needs and their families.
Founded in 1962 by five mothers of children with disabilities, Kindering is the most comprehensive neurodevelopmental center in the Northwest and a nationally-recognized leader in early intervention services for children ages birth to three with special needs. Kindering’s programs serve over 1/3 of infants and toddlers with disabilities in King County each year and, after opening a second location in Bothell in February 2014, they now reach Snohomish County as well. Kindering also boasts a robust umbrella of services for children in foster and kinship care, children from immigrant and refugee families, and children whose families are homeless as well as customized support for parents, siblings and childcare providers of children with special needs.
Says Kindering Executive Director Mimi Siegel, “Decades of research have proven that ages birth to three are the most critical phase of brain development for any child — a one-time opportunity to make a powerful difference.” Kindering is grateful for the support of the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah as they work to ‘improve the world, one child and community at a time’.
