Hey Sammamish. I’m back!
It’s been nearly 10 months since I last sat in the newsroom covering your city, listening to what matters to you most, capturing your various view points. Oh, how I’ve missed it.
I’ve missed journalism.
I left the Issaquah/Sammamish Reporter for a job in communications at a local water district. That didn’t work out. Since then I’ve bounced around, but always kept my eye on you.
If this break has taught me one thing, it was that I am a journalist in my heart. I’m nosy and I like asking questions. I like attending meetings, digging through documents and running after a good story. Nothing is more fulfilling than keeping you informed and interacting with you in the community.
So I was thrilled when I saw there was an opening at the Reporter.
I’ve already run into several familiar faces around town — it’s nice to see you all again. And to those I haven’t seen yet, I hope to soon.
It’s also nice to see not much has changed in the last year — although there was some exciting news, like Central Washington University coming to the Mars Hill campus or the opening of the Metropolitan Market.
But you, the residents, are still just as passionate about your community, looking for a way to manage growth while maintaining your neighborhood characteristics, charm and the tree canopy. Take the April 25 meeting on the East Lake Sammamish Trail segment 2B. About 200 people packed into city hall to hear the latest design details.
But a few things have changed: Namely, the Sammamish Review and the Issaquah Press closed their doors in my absence. This was a sad day for journalism. This also makes my job that much more important. I’ll do my best, but I welcome your help.

I can’t be everywhere at once, so I’m relying on your eyes and ears to help me tell the full story.
See you around, Sammamish.
