Individuals wishing to test their physical fitness have an opportunity to do so this weekend in Issaquah.
The Issaquah Christian Church is hosting its fourth annual Run with Faith 5K/10K run at 10 a.m. April 30. Both runs will start and finish at Issaquah Christian Church, which is located at 10328 Issaquah-Hobart Road SE. Race director Doug Nast said both races are unique in their own ways despite starting and finishing at the same spot.
“The 5K course has a very gentle, half mile slope down at the beginning of the race and since it’s an out and back, you got to go up that gentle slope as you are finishing it,” Nast said. “The 10K is more challenging and takes people up in the area of Tiger Mountain. There is a section that is a quarter of a mile long, which most people will find they will have to walk because it has some steep switchbacks. When coming down from the plateau, you can make up for lost time (from the steep incline).”
The cost is $20 per runner to compete in either the 5K or 10K. All proceeds from the event will benefit Compassion House of Issaquah.
“All the money that we collect on the registrations and the money we collect when someone buys a T-shirt ($10 apiece) all goes to Compassion House,” he added. “It’s not 90 percent, it’s 100 percent. We do have costs but all the costs are being absorbed by members of our church. All the money that people put into this event goes to those families at Compassion House.”
