No Issaquah or Sammamish athletes earned individual titles at Saturday’s KingCo swimming championships, but several are moving on to this week’s District 2 meet.
Issaquah finished eighth as a team with 261.5 points, Skyline was 10th with 165 points and Eastlake was 12th with 139 points. All 17 KingCo schools participated in the meet.
Mercer Island dominated the competition with 878 points, followed by Garfield with 434.
Issaquah advanced 13 athletes through to the district meet. Freshman Willy Matsuda enters the highest seeded Eagle placed at No. 2 in the 100 butterfly. He is also ranked fifth in the 100 backstroke.
Fellow freshman Austin Melody is ranked No. 3 in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.
Other athletes competing for Issaquah include seniors Nate Bean (100 fly), Bobby Johnson (50 free), Jack Taylor (50 free, 100 back), Brandon Pomeroy (diving) and Jake Walin (100 free, 100 breast); juniors Gentry Gevers (200 IM, 100 backstroke), Ben Halter (50 free, 100 free), Skyler Kersten (200 free, 500 free); sophomores Dave Nam (50 free) and Brian Ruggles (200 free, 100 free), along with freshman Spencer McCulloh (200 free, 100 free).
Skyline is sending 18 athletes to districts.
The Spartans are led by senior Alex Palumbo, who is ranked No. 3 in the 500 freestyle and No. 4 in the 200 free. Sophomore David Jett is ranked No. 4 in the 100 freestyle and will be competing in all three relays.
Other athletes competing for Skyline include seniors John Gerlach (200 IM, 100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Mitch Kim (medley relay, 50 free, 200 free relay), Connor Lawhead (50 free, 200 free relay), Matt Matches (50 free, 200 free relay), Jake Millar (100 free, 400 free relay), Max Marber (100 back), TJ Forney (100 breast); sophomores Mitch Corson (100 back), Alex Marber (medley relay, 100 breast), Ashton Powell (200 free, 500 free, 400 free relay), Johnathon Hong (100 fly); freshmen Alex Carey (50 free, 200 free relay), Julian Lim (100 fly), Tucker Russell (100 free, 100 breast), Jay High (500 free) and Kevin Kim (100 breast).
Eastlake is sending 11 athletes to the district meet, led by Zach Alleva. The sophomore is seeded No. 2 in the 100 breaststroke and No. 6 in the 200 IM. Other Eastlake swimmers participating include Henry O’Niel (200 free, 100 free), Jay Bennett (50 free, 100 fly), Steven King (50 free, 100 free), Sean Dhanni (50 free), Chase Stites (diving), Ryker Oldenburg (100 fly, 100 back), Kuroshe Mahak (500 free, 100 back), Dylan Jessum (100 back), Nicholas Howard (100 breast), Connor Knox (100 breast).
The District 2 Championships take place Feb. 12-13 at Juanita High School in Kirkland.
