Eastlake girls set for semi-finals after win over Ballard, Skyline, Issy fall | Prep basketball news

The Lady Wolves were a winner at the 4A KingCo tourney, while Skyline and Issaquah fell in first round games.

Ballard 47 Eastlake 59

Eastlake is one win from a spot in the 4A Regional round after beating Ballard 59-47 in a first round game at the 4A KingCo girls basketball tournament Wednesday.

Marijke Vanderschaaf scored 13 points to lead the way for the Lady Wolves, while Rachel Lortenson scored 11 and Maggie Douglas and Ellie Woerner each added 10.

Eastlake led throughout, and held off the Beavers despite a game high 18 points from Beverly Verdiun, to earn a spot in Saturday’s semi-final round against Newport at 8:15 p.m. at Juanita High School. The Knights beat Bothell 52-37 in another first round game.

The winner ensures its season continues in the 16-team Regional field, and also takes a place in the Feb. 21 conference championship game against either Woodinville or Inglemoor.

The Lady Wolves beat Newport 42-36 in the only meeting between the two this year.

Woodinville 55 Issaquah 49

The Falcons used 18 points from Erin Hamilton and 12 more from Mackenzie Campbell to get the 55-49 win over Issaquah in a first round game, and send the Eagles to a loser-out game Saturday at 3 p.m. at Juanita.

Issaquah, which led after three quarters, got 12 points from Mandie Hill in the loss.

Skyline 28 Inglemoor 62

Deja Strother scored a game high 16 points to lead Inglemoor to the win over Skyline in another first round game.

Shelby Kassuba led the way for the Spartans with 13 in the loss.

Skyline and Issaquah will play at 3 p.m. Saturday at Juanita in a loser-out game. The winner will face either Eastlake or Newport Tuesday in another loser-out contest.

Bainbridge 42 Eastside Catholic 27

The Crusaders were unable to dig out of an early hole in the seventh place game at the Metro League tournament, falling 42-27 to Bainbridge.

Katie Spires scored 10 to lead the way for EC, which begins the Sea-King district tournament Saturday against West Seattle in a loser-out game.
