Skyline 56, Ballard 6
Skyline won its first home game of the season with ease Friday night, crushing non-league Ballard 56-6, and extending the team’s streak of consecutive wins at home to nine.
The Spartans wasted no time jumping out to a lead, taking a 35-0 lead after one quarter. Ballard attempted to surprise Skyline on the opening kickoff, but the plan backfired when an onside attempt didn’t go the required 10 yards. The Spartans struck on the very next play, when quarterback Jake Heaps connected with wide receiver Gino Simone for a 49-yard touchdown. The duo connected on a 10-yard TD strike later in the quarter.
Heaps was 8 of 10 on pass attempts for 144 yards and three TDs. He also had a 7-yard TD pass to with William Chandler in the second quarter. Heaps also rushed for two TDs. Running backs Joey Evans, Nick Washburn and Kia Jandoc combined for 119 yards. Skyline’s defense also came up big, forcing five turnovers and scoring two TDs.
Linebacker Ryan Somers returned a fumble 17 yards for a score, and Peter Kim recovered a fumble in the end zone for another TD.
Skyline is now 2-0 in non-league play.

Archbishop 26, Eastside Catholic 23
Eastside Catholic nearly rallied for a comeback, but Archbishop Murphy held on for a 26-23 victory during a special night at its home field.
Washington state high school football games used blue flags at all of last week’s football games to honor the passing of Wildcat coaching legend Terry Ennis, who died one year ago from prostate cancer.
Archbishop Murphy, ranked as high as No. 2 in class 2A polls, played with inspiration and jumped out to a fast start, taking a 26-7 lead into the fourth quarter. The Crusaders, ranked as high as No. 8 in class 3A polls, rallied from behind with 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get over the hump. Eastside Catholic scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter — a 5-yard run from Nick Tengtio and a 34-yard pass from Zach Cuaresma to Spencer Esau. Collin Caudill recorded a safety and the Crusaders got the ball back. With less than one minute left, Cuaresma got sacked at the Archbishop 39-yard line, and the ball went back to the Wildcats on downs.
Cuaresma completed 14 of 30 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Esau caught eight of those passes for 139 yards and had both TDs. Mike Bush had 14 carries for 61 yards.

Eastside Catholic knocked off 4A Eisenhower of Yakima in week one and came up just short to one of the best 2A teams in the state, 26-23 last week.
Prediction: Eastside Catholic is hungry for a victory after losing last week. They will provide the stiffest challenge North Mason has seen so far this season. Final score: 28-12 Eastside Catholic.
