Eastside Catholic’s state playoff football team took some time away from the gridiron last weekend, volunteering at Camp River Ranch, a Girl Scout camp in Carnation, in preparation of next month’s youth camps.
Team members graveled more than 750 feet of trail, stacked wood and cleared brush at a camp many of their mothers remembered attending as youths.
Head coach and athletic director Jeremy Thielbahr said the experience will pay dividends not only in the fall, but in each of his players’ lives beyond the game.
“At the core of any athletic program at Eastside Catholic is servant leadership and community service,” Thielbahr said. “Our players worked hard- as a team and a family- for the betterment of someone else and we will be a better team because of it.”
