Issaquah jumped out to an early lead, but couldn’t hang on against non-league opponent Mount Si on Friday night.
The Eagles, who led 7-0 after the first quarter, fell 24-21, dropping to 0-2 on the young season.
Quarterback Ryan Bergman hit Evan Peterson for a 44-yard TD in the first quarter. Mount Si responded with 17 unanswered points, however. Bergman pulled Issaquah to within three, 17-14, in the fourth quarter via a 65-yard TD to Peterson, but Mount Si quarterback Chris Clark answered with a 15-yard TD pass to Rossco Castagno. Bergman found Peterson one more time before the end of the game, this time on a 2-yard pass.
Issaquah searches for its first win at 7 p.m., Friday against Inglemoor at Mount Si High School.
Spartans cruise past Beavers
Skyline jumped out to a fast start and cruised to a 42-12 victory over Ballard last Thursday at Seattle’s Memorial Stadium.
The Spartans scored 28 first-quarter points, and held a 42-0 halftime lead before sitting most of the starters in the second half.
Senior quarterback Jake Heaps threw for two touchdown passes — a 26-yard pass to Connor Brandt and a 9-yard strike to Miles Edwards — and ran for another. Defensive end Cooper Pelluer returned a fumble 20 yards for a touchdown, running back Kai Jandoc scored from 6 yards out, and backup quarterback Tait Stephens hit Mitchell Kim for a 3-yard TD.
Skyline (2-0) hosts Oaks Christian (2-0) from Westlake Village, Calif. at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and can be heard live on KJR AM 950.
Eastlake slams Lake Washington
Eastlake ran all over Lake Washington Friday night, beating the Kangs 53-0 on the Plateau. Daniel Jackstadt got things moving in the first quarter with a 48-yard punt return for a touchdown. Senior running back Cameron Hunt scored three TDs for the Wolves on runs of 8 and 1 yard, and added another on a 15-yard TD pass from quarterback Kelby McCorkle.
McCorkle also had a 78-yard TD pass to Sam Olmstead, a 43-yard TD pass to Riley Hill and a 21-yard TD pass to Michael Maguire. Trenton Butler added a 22-yard run for a TD in the fourth quarter.
Eastlake (2-0) hosts Woodinville (1-1) at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 18.
