Issaquah locked up the KingCo Crest division Wednesday night, beating Newport 56-50 on its home floor.
The third-ranked Eagles trailed the seventh-ranked Knights 22-19 at halftime, but a second-half offensive surge, keyed by important offensive rebounds, put Issaquah over the top.
The Eagles battled to a 37-38 lead after three quarters, and increased their lead to as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter.
Maddey Pflaumer led Issaquah with a game-high 17 points. Blaire Brady scored eight, while Aimee Brakken and Taryn Holmes scored seven apiece.
Newport was led by Caitlin Bennett’s 14 points.
The Eagles earned their second victory this season over the Knights and improved to 13-2 in league and 16-3 overall. Newport fell to 12-3 in league and 16-3 overall. Issaquah closes its regular-season out against Skyline at 6:30 p.m., Friday on the road. Newport travels to Garfield for its final regular-season game.
Eastlake keeps playoff hopes alive
Eatlake earned a key 61-58 victory over Garfield Wednesday night, keeping its playoff hopes alive and well.
The Wolves jumped out to a fast start, leading 22-15 after one quarter and 33-24 at halftime. The Bulldogs closed the gap in the second half, but their final push wasn’t enough.
Eastlake was led by sophomore Kendra Morrison’s 22 points. Alyssa Charlston and Lauren Files scored 14 and 10, respectively.
The Wolves improved to 7-8 in league and 11-8 overall with the victory. They are currently tied with Skyline (7-8) and Lake Washington (7-8) for KingCo’s sixth- through eighth-place spots. Eastlake’s opponent Friday, Redmond, is 6-9 in league and one game out. Tipoff takes place at 6:30 p.m. at EHS.
Redmond knocks off Skyline
Just when Skyline appeared to be getting hot, the Spartans took a tough blow Wednesday night.
Playing for a chance to lockup a playoff position, Skyline fell 47-33 on the road to Redmond. The loss dropped the Spartans to 7-8 in league, and kept the Mustangs’ playoff hopes alive, improving their league record to 6-9 with one game to go.
Redmond, which led 20-14 at halftime, outscored Skyline in every quarter.
The Spartans were led by Kassia Fortier’s 11 points. The Mustangs were paced by the 19 points of Katie Whitaker.
Skyline was coming off big wins over Eastlake and Newport, with a close loss to Woodinville sandwiched in between. The Spartans close out the season at 6:30 p.m., Friday, at home against first-place Issaquah. Redmond. which owns a tiebreaker over Skyline, travels to face rival Eastlake.
EC thumped by Seattle Prep
Eastside Catholic suffered a tough loss in its final home game Tuesday night, falling 60-32 to Seattle Prep.
Three Panther players scored in double-figures led by Kari Luttinen’s 18. Edy Jostol and Lindsey Brown scored 17 and 10, respectively.
The Crusaders were led by Michaela O’Rourke’s 16 points.
Eastside Catholic closes out its season at 6:15 p.m., tonight at Blanchet.
