Issaquah began the 4A KingCo tournament with a 61-42 win against Inglemoor Tuesday, and will face Roosevelt, a 70-61 winner over Bothell, Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Juanita High School.
Head coach Jason Griffith said the growth of his team, which finished the regular season 13-2 in conference play, is most evident in their cohesion. That bond now has the Eagles one win from a spot in the 4A KingCo title game, and a spot in the 16-team Regional round.
“Team chemistry-wise, we’re in a great place,” he said. “The kids all understand their roles and what the team needs from them.”
The Eagles have every reason to be confident as the postseason continues, riding a six game winning streak that includes a victory over previously unbeaten Garfield.
Their last loss was the first since the team returned from the MaxPreps Holiday Classic at the start of January, where Griffith said his team got, “a reality check,” and came home with a 1-3 record.
“We didn’t play our best basketball down there,” he said. “But at the same time, it got us to refocus on what it takes to beat good teams.”
Eastlake handled Ballard 62-46 in its opener at the conference tournament, and will play Garfield for the other conference title game spot and automatic Regional berth.
The Wolves enter that game with wins in three of their last four, but lost the only meeting with the Bulldogs 92-69.
