The Issaquah and Skyline boys swim and dive teams each scored top-five finishes at the KingCo swim and dive championships, which wrapped its final day of competition Saturday at Kamiak High School.
Competing against 16 teams spanning the 2A, 3A and 4A classes, the Eagles and Spartans were separated by a mere point, with Issaquah placing third, scoring 460 points, and Skyline fourth with 459.
The two-time defending 3A state champion Bellevue Wolverines won the meet with a top score of 583. Mercer Island was second, scoring 514.
Issaquah had two event champions at Saturday’s final round. Brandon Leu won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.64. Will Crewe won the 500 free with a time of 4:49.91.
The Eagles’ team of Kyle Millis, Christopher Leu, Crewe and Brandon Leu finished runner-up in the 400 free relay, finishing a second behind Bellevue with a time of 3:15.23. Crewe, Millis and Christopher and Brandon Leu placed third in the 200 free relay at 1:28.67.
In individual competition, Crewe placed third for the Eagles in the 50 free (21.99) while Brandon Leu placed third in the 100 back (54.44).
Millis was fourth in the 200 free (1:47.32) and diver Trey Gevers placed fourth in the one-meter dive with a score of 352.67
Skyline finished in the top three in each of Saturday’s relay events. Colin Huynh, Jeremy Kim, Ryan Kinnear and Rehaan Bhimani placed second behind Bellevue in the 200 medley relay (1:40.08).
Jacob Leahy, Bhimani, Kinnear and William O’Daffer were one-hundredth of a second behind the Wolverines in the 200 free relay, placing second at 1:27.81. The team of Leahy, Huynh, Joseph Spaniac and O’Daffer placed third in the 400 free relay at 3:17.38.
Leahy was third for the Spartans in the 200 free (1:47.17) and fifth in the 100 fly (54.49). O’Daffer placed third in the 100 fly (53.22) and was fourth in the 100 back (54.45). Kinnear was fourth in the 50 free (22.15) while Kim placed fifth in the 100 back (55.87).
Eastlake eighth at KingCo
The Eastlake Wolves finished in the top 10 at the KingCo championships, placing eighth overall at Saturday’s meet with a team score of 247.
The Wolves had an event winner in Nolan Van Nortwick, who won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 59.86. Brandon Yue was a top-five finisher for Eastlake in the 500 free, placing third overall with a time of 4:53.4.
