Issaquah’s David White wouldn’t be denied in Saturday’s Region 2 Championships.
The senior followed up last week’s league title by winning three convincing decisions to capture 145-pound district championship at Skyline High School.
White defeated Dustin Rhode of Bothell 10-0 and Inglemoor’s Brian Trabun 13-2 before earning a 7-2 decision over Bethell’s Austin Henderson for the title.
Whites’ victory helped the Eagles nab ninth place overall at the 20-team Region 2 meet with 56 points.
Graham-Kapowsin dominated the meet with 194 team points. Inglemoor was the highest KingCo finisher in fourth place with 93 points.
Issaquah advanced three other wrestlers through to the state tournament. Senior Max Tickman finished third at 112 pounds. He earned a 10-4 decision to win his final match over Brett Dykman of Todd Beamer. Sean Novak (140) and Almen Thorpe (135) both finished in fifth place, earning must wins in their final matches of the afternoon.
Skyline, which finished 10th overall with 49 team points, had four wrestlers advance to state. Senior Jordan McCaslin had the highest team finish at 152 pounds. He defeated teammate Ian Crouch to capture third place. Crouch also advanced with the fourth-place finish.
Sophomore Griffin Howlett finished fourth at 103 pounds while freshman teammate Joseph DeMatteo was fifth in the same weight class.
Freshman Kara Alden placed fourth in the Girls Region I tournament in Sedro-Woolley, also advancing to state.
Eastlake placed 11th in the Region 2 meet, advancing two wrestlers on to state.
Senior Chris Dallas placed battled his way to the 103-pound championship match by earning 12-2 and 17-3 decisions. He placed second to Curtis’ Eddie Cuevas, who pinned Dallas 44 seconds into the championship match. Sophomore Eric Harper finished third at 160 pounds, winning his final match of the day 11-5 over Puyallup’s Ryhs Stevenson.
Eastside Catholic advanced two wrestlers through Saturday’s Region 2 3A Championships at Kennedy Catholic.
The Crusaders were led by junior Anthony Roy, who finished second at 152 pounds. He lost an 11-6 decision to Jack Schleer in the title match.
Junior Joe Stoutt placed third overall. He pinned Bainbridge freshman Mike Grant in 2 minutes, 35 seconds to win his final match.
Eastside Catholic placed seventh in the 15-team meet with 65.5 points. O’Dea dominated the meet, winning with 368.5 points.
