The Lakeside Senior Legion baseball team started its 33rd annual Brandy Pugh Memorial tournament off strong, but fell shy of placing.
The local group of Issaquah, Skyline and Newport high school players won their first two games, beating Bellevue Honda, 4-2 on July 7 and the Twin City Titans, 7-5 on July 8. Lakeside fell to the Vancouver Cardinals 8-2 on Friday, then lost to the Kennewick Bandits, 14-1, on Saturday.
Already out of contention to make it to Monday’s championship games, Lakeside defeated Pacific Tech Construction, 9-2, on Sunday.
Connor Lawhead earned the complete-game victory for Lakeside, allowing two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Shane Yarnell went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Reid Dilley was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Sunday’s victory moved Lakeside to 15-16 on the summer season. They have seven regular-season games left before the Senior Legion Super Regionals begin, July 24.
Chaffey Baseball won the Brandy Pugh championship, beating the Twin City Titans, 14-0, on Monday night. It was the second year in a row and third time in the last four years Chaffey claimed the title. The Spokane Dodgers defeated the Kennewick Bandits 7-6 for third place.
