The Lakeside Senior Legion team secured a victory in its final regular-season game Tuesday night, beating Bellevue Legion, 9-4.
The group of Issaquah, Skyline and Newport players jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the third, before allowing Bellevue to inch back in with four runs in the bottom of the third.
Reliever Joey Gale came in to close the final four innings, holding the Bellevue bats scoreless, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
Three players — Spencer Rogers, Sean Penberthy and Reid Dilley — collected nine of the team’s 10 hits. Rogers reached base four times, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and four runs scored; Penberthy was 4-for-4, with two doubles and three RBI; and Dilley was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Lakeside ended the regular summer season with a 20-18 record. They begin a four-team Sub Regional American Legion tournament at 7 p.m., Saturday against the Spokane Cannons at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. The other two teams in the Bellevue Sub Regional are Bremerton and the Kennewick Bandits.
Games continue Sunday, with the top two teams advancing to the Senior American Legion State Tournament, July 28 – Aug. 1 in Selah. Lakeside won the 2009 state title before advancing to the American Legion AAA Northwest Regional Championships.
