Little League action caught fire over the weekend as District 9 All-Star baseball and softball tournaments started around the Eastside.
Here’s a look at how local teams fared in the opening rounds of the tournaments.
9-10-year-old baseball
Sammamish American is still going strong in the District 9-10-year-old all-star baseball tournament. The local team earned a bye in the first round before dropping its first contest, 16-1 to Mercer Island on Sunday. Sammamish American followed Monday with an 11-8 victory over rival Sammamish National. They are scheduled to play next on Wednesday night in a loser-out game.
Sammamish National opened the tournament on Saturday with an 8-1 loss to Bellevue West. They fought back Sunday to defeat Snoqualmie Valley 10-5, before ending their tournament run on Monday with an 11-8 loss to league rival Sammamish American.
Eastlake lost its tournament opener Saturday, 7-5, to Kirkland National. They rebounded on Sunday with a 13-0 victory over Issaquah and they face Redmond West at 6 p.m., tonight at Redmond’s Hartman Park.
Issaquah dropped an 8-7 heartbreaker to Redmond North Saturday. A 13-0 loss to Eastlake on the Fourth of July ended their hopes at a tournament championship.
10-11-year-old baseball
Two area 10-11 year-old Little League All-Star teams — Issaquah and Eastlake — started the District 9 tournament hot over the weekend.
Issaquah defeated Bellevue East 2-0 on Saturday before beating Sammammish American 12-7 on Sunday. They are slated to play Bellevue West Wednesday night in the quarterfinals.
Eastlake beat Sammamish National 12-5 on Saturday, then hammered Redmond West 14-3 on Sunday. They are scheduled to play Falls in the quarterfinals on Wednesday night.
Sammamish American started the tournament off Saturday with an 11-0 victory over Sno-Valley North. They fell 12-7 to Issaquah on Monday and face Kirkland National at 6 p.m., tonight on Mercer Island.
Sammamish National dropped its opening-round game, 12-5, to Eastlake. They battled back to beat Redmond North 12-4 on Sunday, but were eliminated by Mercer Island, 3-2, on Monday.
9-10-year-old softball
The combined Issaquah-Sammamish Little League 9-10 year-old softball all stars defeated Snoqualmie Valley North 15-5 on Saturday.
They are scheduled to play Falls Thursday in the quarterfinals. The winner advances into Saturday’s semifinal against either Snoqualmie Valley or Bellevue West.
10-11-year-old softball
Eastlake moved into the District 9 semifinals with two wins. They defeated the combined Mercer Island-Bellevue Thunderbird team 13-3 on Saturday and Falls 8-0 on Monday. Eastlake is scheduled to face Kirkland National on Wednesday. A win there would move them into the finals.
