Issaquah ends regular season 16-0
Issaquah defeated Newport 2-0 on May 1 to complete a perfect 16-0 regular season.
Mikinzie Voves pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits in the Eagles 12th shutout of the season.
The perfect regular season record is believed to be only the second in KingCo 3A history — Sammamish did it in 2006 with a 14-0 record. Issaquah, which has only allowed four earned runs this season, is hosting the KingCo 3A tournament this week. The Eagles started the first round last night. The championship game is set for 5:30 tonight at IHS.
Eastlake moves
into top slot
Eastlake moved into a tie for first place with Woodinville Tuesday night, beating the Falcons 1-0 at Eastlake High. The Wolves broke the game open in the fifth inning when Marissa Guches belted a solo home run over the fence. Stephanie Fox pitched a complete game shutout. Eastlake moved into a tie with Woodinville, improving to 17-2 in league. Eastlake had one game remaining Wednesday against Juanita. Woodinville, 17-2, had one remaining game against Roosevelt. If both teams finish in a tie they will likely play a tiebreaker today, May 9 to decide the No. 1 seed in the KingCo 4A tournament.

Skyline girls win
All-City meet
The Skyline girls won a meet featuring all three Issaquah School District schools May 1 at SHS earning 85 points.
Issaquah (76) and Liberty (28) rounded out the field. Individual Spartan winners included: McKensie Gelber, javelin (127-10); Barbara Holladay, high jump (5-0); Kaitlyn Mark, long jump (15-10); Rachael Butenko, triple jump (34-0 1/2); Kiara Williams, 100 hurdles (15.7) and Alicia Connors, 3,200 (11:54.6). The 800 relay of Kaylyn Berry, Kayli Kohlrus, Danielle Matthews, Tiffany Tabbot also won in 1:46.9.
Issaquah was led by Emee Matthew’s wins in the discus (96-0) and shot put (33-6 1/2). Other Eagle winners included: Elaine Tran, 300 hurdles (47.3); Haley Jacobson, 100 (12.5); Johanna Carr, 200 (25.4); Kaley Allison, 400 (51.0); Bonnie Young, 800 (2:20.7) and Haida Ikeda, 1,600 (5:24.90). The 400 relay of Carr, Jacobson, Tran and Kim Varney won in 50 seconds while the 1,600 relay of Kaley Allison, Ikeda, Varney and Young won in 4:12.3. The 3A/4A KingCo meet began Wednesday and wraps up with finals at 3:30 p.m., today at Liberty High School.
The Skyline boys were narrowly edged by Liberty 71-70. after orginally being labeled the winner of the meet. A scoring mistake, however, handed the meet back to Liberty. Issaquah finished with 40 points.
Simon Sorenson paved the way for the Spartans with wins in the 1,600 (4:29.10) and 3,200 (9:53.40). Other individual first-place finishers for the Spartans included: Ryan St. Laurent, shot put (42-9 1/2); Kasen Williams, high jump (5-10) and Andrew Gray, 300 hurdles (42.8). Gray and A.J. Davis tied for first in the 110 hurdles (15.6). The 400 relay of Alex Lee, Gray, Blake Springer and Dustin Bratten finished first in 43.4, while the 1,600 relay of Tommy Aarts, Bratten, Jordan Kaatz and Sorenson took first in 3:30.4.
Liberty had eight individual wins led by multiple victories from Kyle Dennison in the javelin (165-4) and discus (141-10); Alex Leonard in the 100 (11.3) and 200 (23.3); and Chris Freeman in the long jump (20-3) and triple jump (41-8).
Issaquah earned its sole victory from Jeremiah Odom in the pole vault (11-0).
Eastlake girls
claim league meet
The Eastlake girls won a four-team KingCo 4A meet May 1, earning 105 team points. Redmond (96), Lake Washington (50) and Juanita (24) rounded out the field.
Lan VoBa took multiple events, winning the long jump (15-7) and the triple jump (33-8). Other individual winners included: Elizabeth Kirsten, discus (93-8); Mattie Lee, 100 (12.62) and Chelsea Orr, 400 (60.96). The 800 relay team won in 1:54.18.
The Eastlake boys finished third with 68 points. Lake Washington (76.5) and Redmond (74.5) finished first and second, respectively. Juanita was fourth with 43.
The Wolves won seven events, led by Devin Bennett’s victories in the long jump (19-9 3/4) and triple jump (39-1). Other individual winners included: Steve Wallinger, high jump (6-0); Jeff Sloat, 300 hurdles (43.49) and Dan Sloat, 800 (1:56.12). The 400 relay won in a time of 43.95, while the 1,600 relay finished first in 3:23.93.

Issaquah blows
past Eastlake
Issaquah defeated Eastlake 17-3 in its final regular season game Tuesday night. Alex Bates had six goals and Jordan Goldstein had three. Nick Yaap scored two goals, and had three assists and three saves. Issaquah ended its season with a 12-1 record and is in second place in Division I. The Eagles, who are in second place behind Bainbridge Island, start the playoffs at 7 p.m. Saturday against an opponent yet to be determined. Skyline, which sits in third, begins the tournament at 7:30 tonight at home against Maple Valley.
