EC captures Metro crown

Eastside Catholic won the Metro League volleyball title Saturday afternoon, beating Nathan Hale and Bishop Blanchet in three matches.

The Crusaders downed Hale 25-16, 25-23 and 25-8, followed by a 25-22, 25-23, 25-10 over Blanchet.

Brooke Bachesta and Cami Silverman had 21 and 20 kills, respectively, in two matches. Kelsey Miller had a combined 42 assists in the two matches. The Crusaders play next in the Sea-King District tournament Thursday, Nov. 13 at West Seattle.

Skyline rallies for win

Skyline defeated Woodinville 3-2 Tuesday night to stay in the winners’ bracket of the KingCo 4A tournament. Emily Hutchings led the Spartans with 14 kills, followed by Olivia Marquardt and Maddie Magee, who each had 13. Sam Sanghvi added 48 assists. The Spartans hosted Issaquah last night in the second round of the league tournament.

Issaquah sweeps Eastlake

Issaquah earned a 3-0 sweep over Eastlake in the first round of the KingCo 4A tournament, winning 25-7, 25-11, 25-18. Rachel Roeder led the Eagles with 14 kills. Riley Sorenson had 37 assists and Kayla Schwisow had 12 digs and six aces. Issaquah played Skyline last night in the second round of the double-elimination league tournament. The winner of that game moves on the KingCo Championship Nov. 13 against Bothell or Roosevelt. Eastlake played a loser-out game last night against Woodinville.

Cross country

Eastlake girls win bi district crown

The Eastlake girls captured the KingCo 4A/Greater St. Helens Bi District meet Saturday at Seattle’s Lincoln Park with 35 points.

The Wolves were led by sophomore Megan Batty’s third place finish. She finished the 5,000 meter course in 19 minutes flat. Chelsea Orr was second in 19:01 and Tasha Lingenbrink was ninth, finishing in 19:12. Erin Blodnick finished in a tie for 10th in 19:13 and Ashley Horton was 19th in 19:37.

Redmond, whose Sarah Lord took first in 18:25, finished in second place with 95 points. Skyline just missed qualifying its team for the state meet, finishing in fifth with 146 points. A fourth-place team finish or a top 20 individual finish was required to move on. Spartan runner Haley Hunter advanced to state, tying for 13th in 19:21.

The state meet takes place Nov. 8 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Spartans, Eagles qualify for state

The Skyline boys captured second place at the KingCo 4A/Greater St. Helens Bi District meet Saturday at Seattle’s Lincoln Park with 74 points. Redmond won the title with 59. Skyline’s Simon Sorensen took second place on the 5,000-meter course, completing the race in 15 minutes, 42 seconds. Kyle Branch took 11th in 16:18, while Mark Frerker was 12th in 16:23. Travis Lund finished in 19th at 16:27. Issaquah also qualified its team for the state meet, taking fourth with 116 points. Chris Brasino took seventh for the Eagles, crossing the line at 16:06. Jon Wallis was 17th in 16:26.

The state meet takes place Nov. 8 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
