Skyline earned a bit of redemption against defending 4A champion Kentwood on Friday as the Spartans beat the Conquerors 11-3 for their first win of the season.

Skyline earned a bit of redemption against defending 4A champion Kentwood on Friday as the Spartans beat the Conquerors 11-3 for their first win of the season.

Kentwood, which defeated Skyline in the opening round of state last year, surrendered seven runs in the  bottom of the third after taking a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning.

Nate Litka went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Matt Sinatro was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Matt Lunde pitched 5 1/3 innings for the victory. He allowed four hits, two earned runs and struck out five.

The Spartans improved to 1-2 overall with the victory. They are next scheduled to host Mount Si at 3:45 p.m., Tuesday.

Issaquah drops a pair

The Issaquah baseball team is still in search of its first victory after the weekend after dropping two games to Liberty and Kelso.

The Eagles fell 8-4 to Liberty on Friday and 10-4 to Kelso on Saturday.

Big innings hurt Issaquah in both games. The Eagles surrendered six runs in the second inning of Friday’s loss and four runs in the top of the fourth on Saturday.

Second baseman Justin Reynolds highlighted Issaquah’s offense in the two games, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Ben Rosellini went 2-for-4 at the plate, with two runs scored, three walks and an RBI.

The Eagles are now 0-3 in non-league play. They are next scheduled to face Newport at 4 p.m., Tuesday in Bellevue.

Eastside Catholic rolls over Cleveland

Eastside Catholic picked up its first win of 2011 on Friday, downing league opponent Cleveland, 17-0.

The Crusaders were led at the plate by Shannon Deccio, who went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and single, and seven RBI.

Caitlin Courshon was 2-for-3 and Courtney Brown was 2-for-4.

In her first game ever, pitcher Desiree Mix surrendered just three hits over five innings.

Eastside Catholic moved to 1-3 with the victory. The Crusaders face Ingraham at 3:30 p.m., today on the road.

Issaquah rallies from behind to beat Eastside Catholic

Behind Zach Lawless’ hat trick on Friday night, Issaquah defeated Eastside Catholic 3-2 at IHS.

The Crusaders jumped on the board first on Tory Stewart Steele’s goal in the 11th minute.

Lawless then scored his first of three goals in the 15th minute on an assist from Michael Roberts.

Spencer Spears gave Eastside the lead back just before halftime on an unassisted goal in the 37th minute.

Lawless knotted the game up in the 42nd minute off an assist from Akash Ramachandran and gave Issaquah its first lead in the 61st minute on another assist from Roberts.

The Eagles improved to 3-0-1 on the season, while the Crusaders dropped to 1-2. Issaquah travels to non-league Highline tonight at 7:30 p.m., while Eastside travels to Blanchet at 3:30 p.m., tomorrow.
