One game after narrowly losing to No. 3 Woodinville, Skyline finally got its upset — and in a big way.

The Spartans knocked off second-ranked Newport 57-22 Friday night behind the 19 points of Kassia Fortier. Eight other Skyline players added points, including nine from Lindsey Nicholson and eight apiece from Michelle Bretl and Haley Smith.

The Spartans jumped out to a 18-3 lead after one quarter and never looked back, closing the fourth quarter out on another large 19-4 run.

Skyline improved to 7-7 in league and 10-8 overall. The Spartans are currently in a three-way tie for fifth place with Lake Washington and Roosevelt with two league games remaining. The top eight teams make the league tournament.

Issaquah fends off Eastlake

Issaquah jumped out to a fast start Friday night and was able to hang on for a 67-61 victory over KingCo Crest rival Eastlake.

The Eagles led 39-27 at the half, but the Wolves mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback, pulling within six. Clutch shots down the stretch sealed the win for fourth-ranked Issaquah.

Blaire Brady led a group of four players in double figures with 16 points. Domi Mendezona, Taryn Holmes and Maddey Pflaumer scored 12, 11 and 10, respectively.

Eastlake was led by the game-high 26 of sophomore Kendra Morrison. Alyssa Charlston added 14.

Issaquah improved to 12-2 in league and 15-3 overall. They are currently tied with Newport for second place overall in KingCo. The two squads face off at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 10 at NHS.

Eastlake is hanging on to the eighth and final playoff spot in KingCo with a 6-8 league and 10-8 overall record. The Wolves face Garfield and Redmond in their final two games of the regular season.
