Skyline blew the competition away at Saturday’s Sea-King 4A District championships, claiming the team title with 246 points. Garfield finished second with 166 points.
“We had a really, really good swim meet,” Spartan head coach Susan Simpkins said.
Senior All-American Andie Taylor paced Skyline with two individual district titles, including a state record-breaking performance in the 200 freestyle. Taylor’s time of 1 minute, 47.19 seconds broke a 1:48.5 mark she set in 2007.
“It was very impressive, she was really relaxed,” Simpkins said.
Taylor also placed first in the 500 freestyle with an All-American and school record time of 4:48.96.
The Spartan 200 free relay of Maria Volodkevich, Nina Zook, Meghan O’Keefe, Adrienne D’Alo and Taylor won the district title in a school-record time of 1:39.62. The 400 free relay of Delaney Boyer, Zook, O’Keefe, Volodkevich and Taylor also claimed the district title with another school record of 3:36.40.
Issaquah finished third in the Sea-King 4A District meet with 160 team points. The Eagles had two district champions. Senior Helen Liu won the 50 freestyle in 24.62 seconds, while freshman Kayla Flaten took the 100 freestyle in 53.88 seconds.
Eastlake finished fourth of the 12 KingCo 4A schools with 127 points. The Wolves were led by sophomore Katie Kinnear, who took two district titles in All-American times. Kinnear won the 100 butterfly in 54.62 seconds and the 200 individual medley in 1:04.82.
The 4A state swimming and diving championships take place Nov. 12-14 at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way.
