Issaquah halved a pair of games over the weekend, falling 11-0 to league rival Redmond Friday night, before bouncing back for a 10-3 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles struggled to find any kind of groove at the plate Friday, earning just one hit off Mustang starter Zach Abbruzza.
The junior struck out five Issaquah batters on just 66 total pitches. Abbruzza also had a big day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with five RBI. He had a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth and a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth that ended the game.
Shane Yarnell had the Issaquah hit on a single with one out in the top of the second inning.
The Eagles bounced back Saturday afternoon with 12 hits in their victory over Mt. Rainier. Issaquah erupted for four runs in the top of the third and never looked back. Center fielder Spencer Rogers had an RBI single in the inning and finished the afternoon 4-for-5. Jake Bakamus recorded a two-run double in the top of the fifth, helping Issaquah to a five-run inning.
Pitcher Mike Paulson earned the victory allowing just two hits and striking out seven over 3 2/3 innings.
The Eagles are now 3-2 in league and 6-2 overall. They are scheduled to face Roosevelt (0-5, 1-7) at 3:45 p.m., Tuesday.
Newport no-hits Eastlake
Newport pitcher Cole Wiper didn’t allow a hit in five complete innings Saturday afternoon, helping the Knights down Eastlake 12-0. He had five strikeouts and allowed three walks.
Jared Fisher led Newport at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Eastlake’s Nick Hooper allowed just six hits, but was hurt by walks and errors.
The Wolves fell to 1-4 in league and 1-6 overall with the loss. They are scheduled to face Eastside Catholic at 4 p.m. today.

Issaquah sweeps aside Colorado teams
Issaquah’s Todd Jones scored from 6 yards out with 30 seconds remaining to give the Eagles a 9-8 win over Colorado’s Columbine High School on Friday.
The game-winner came after Columbine tied the game at 8-8 with 51 seconds remaining. Issaquah’s O’Neil Hughes stopped a Rebels shot off the ensuing faceoff and cleared the ball to Kevin Powers who hit Jones on the wing to set up the decisive goal.
The score was the second of the day for Jones. In the win, the Eagles’ Jake Fritz had three goals, Kevin Powers had two goals and two assists, and Hughes had eight saves in goal.
Skyline comes up short in Oregon
Skyline dropped a pair of lacrosse games in Oregon over the weekend, falling 9-8 to West Linn on Friday and 14-2 Sunset on Saturday. No statistics were reported from either game. The Spartans fell to 3-5-0 overall (2-2-0 in Division I play).

Issaquah rolls past Chief Sealth
Issaquah defeated non-league Chief Sealth 5-0 Friday night, getting scores from four different players.
Connor Gerrity, Junpei Tsuji and Raymond Garcia all had goals in the first half. Nick Smith added a goal in the 63rd minute. Chief Sealth also knocked in an own-goal.
Eagle goalkeper Evan King recorded the shutout.
Issaquah is now 2-0-1 in league and 4-3-1 overall. They face rival Skyline next, at 7:30 p.m., Friday at SHS.
