It was an all-KingCo final in the 4A girls doubles state tournament in Richland Saturday as Issaquah’s Sam Garrard and Kelsey wilson finished their season in the title match, falling to Fiona Cerf and Alexia Fife from Garfield in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
The Eagles’ pair won their first match of the tournament 2-1 over Cindy Park and Crystal Lee of Thomas Jefferson before taking quarterfinal and semi-final matches in straight sets to advance to the championship.
On the boys side, Skyline’s Alex Wu and Braden Hansen were fifth in the doubles bracket after winning three straight loser-out matches to earn a trophy.
Wu and Hansen were dropped 2-0 in their first match of the tournament before beating Aadil Diwan and Randy Huynh of Kentridge 2-1 and ending the first day of play with a 2-0 win over Olympia’s Will Berghoff and Kyle Wooten.
Chase Hassig and Henry Wurst of Bellarmine Prep, who took the same route to the fifth place match, won the second set before Wu and Hansen closed things out 7-5 to finish in fifth.
Aman Manji made his way to the semi-finals in the 4A boys singles bracket for Skyline before losing a 2-0 match and finishing in third.
Manji beat Aaron Park of Stadium 2-0 and took a match over Derek Welch 2-0 before losing a two set match in the semi-finals.
He rebounded from that loss to win the third place match over Oscar Burney 2-0.
