Proficient shooting from beyond the three-point line was on display for the Eastlake Wolves girls basketball team in a KingCo 4A matchup against the Issaquah Eagles.
Eastlake, who recorded 11 3-pointers in the contest (including seven in the first half), cruised to a convincing 74-42 victory against Issaquah on Jan. 6 at Issaquah High School. The Wolves improved their KingCo league record to 4-2 with the win while the Eagles dropped to 0-6 in league play. Wolves junior guard Cameron Edward scored a game-high 25 points in the victory. Edward was on fire from the perimeter, hitting six 3-pointers in the win against Issaquah. Eastlake point guard Gina Marxen added 20 points as well in the victory.
Eastlake head coach Sara Goldie said her team was determined to get back on track after suffering a 59-47 defeat to the Woodinville Falcons on Jan. 4.
“I think the girls were pretty motivated after Wednesday. Coming off a frustrating loss, all they could do was respond and they did,” Goldie said of her team. “This (Issaquah) is always a hard place for us to play. Once we started hitting our shots and got into a little bit of a rhythm, you could tell we were feeling good. Confidence really does a lot for you.”
Edward echoed Goldie’s sentiment before heading to the locker room at the conclusion of the game.
“We were mad from that (loss to Woodinville) and I think we just used that to carry the motivation into this game. We have a lot of options this year on offense and teams don’t know what to stop. When they try to stop one of us, the other player is going to be open. That is going to be key for us this year,” Edward said. “I think the thing that is really clicking this year is our chemistry. We’re all looking for each other and always make that extra pass.”
